I’m Amara Kanu, wife of Kanu the professional footballer, mother, author and personal trainer. As a woman, I know the changes that the body, mind and self-confidence can go through due to pregnancy, hormonal imbalances, emotions, and oh yes the constant cravings we all encounter. Never allowing the negative aspect of these changes to get the better of me, I embarked on a journey to reclaim, sustain and maintain my body, mind and confidence.
My initial inspiration was my mother’s illness. She suffers from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), a long term disorder of the digestive system caused by stress and the inability of the body to digest certain food that contains gluten. One experiences urgent need to stool quite frequently and this can become very inconvenient and exhausting quite quickly. The bouts usually come in periods and lasts from a few days to a month or more leaving side effects that include anxiety, depression and a general lethargic feeling. IBS is thought to affect up to 1 in 5 people at some point in their life, and it usually first develops when a person is between 20 and 30 years of age.
